The last few months have been a whirlwind for me, with memories that I’ll cherish forever. In November and December, I took a break from writing and creating content on YouTube.
I decided to dip my toes back into the dating world after a three-year hiatus. It was a transformative period I must say.
I’m still not there, as I’ve already realized – but I can say that I’ve fought my demons and won the battle. I know for a fact that I’m ready to love and to be loved.
Being the introvert I am, Tinder, and OkCupid were my top options. I mean – If I’m not in my office working, I’m at some restaurant focusing on my laptop wearing this serious face that I’m trying to change uurrgh!
I finally met this fabulous white man who was visiting Kenya on a tour. We went on epic hikes and enjoyed camping under the stars. Listen! This experience changed my perception of so many things that I feel shy to say 🙈
Long story short; From “Dorca, I don’t think white men are my preference even on these dating sites. I just prefer African men” to “ So, this is all we’re missing out?”😁
During this same November/December period, my brother successfully graduated from Daystar University, and I had the pleasure of hosting him for the first time as adults. December was all about quality family time for me, as it is for most people.
In January, I took some much-needed time off to plan out my year and recharge from all the fun from the previous months. What better way to plan the year than from a different country?
Yes, you’re right – I had the opportunity to travel to one of my dream destinations during the summer. It was an incredible experience that brought me a sense of peace of mind that I had never experienced before.
Most days were spent indulging in my love for shopping and then retreating to my hotel room to relax.
On days when I didn’t go shopping, I spent my time by the pool, and I am proud to say that I completed my swimming lessons and can now swim like a fish.
On the remaining days, I went out to tour the city, explore its sights, and talk to strangers. It was an unforgettable trip that left me feeling rejuvenated and inspired.
By February, I was back in full swing, publishing new content on YouTube, which is both a side hustle and a passion project for me.
March is my birth month, oh, how I cherish this month.
I celebrated my 28th birthday with a picnic party with my closest friends and video-called family.
Also, there’s this guy from tinder that I’ve been talking to since November. He gifted me a fragrance I had mentioned in one of our random chats – this meant the world to me. Especially as a giver who rarely receives.
My Instagram wall says it all because it was so suitable for a photoshoot session.
Now that I’m done with my birthday, I’m focusing on my work goals and pitching to new clients. I aim to increase my earnings and save up for a trip to Zanzibar, which are my top priorities for this year.
So, it’s back to the grind, and I’m excited about what the future holds.
Wait. Lest I forget – I also went through a difficult time as I fell out with a friend who had been like a sister to me for almost two years.
This was around September – October.
Although we had shared many good and bad moments together, I eventually realized that our friendship was no longer working for me in many ways.
The competition had started to creep in, and I never imagined having a friendship that was based on rivalry.
It was a tough decision, but I knew it was necessary for my own growth and well-being.
It was a learning experience for me, and I learned to prioritize my own needs and boundaries in friendships.
